Orton Effect

Open a landscape photograph in photoshop

Duplicate lbackground layer

Top layer filter-convert to smart filters

Filter-blur-gaussian blur and use a radius of 3-6 pixels

Change the blend mode from normal to soft light or screen mode. If screen mode then reduce the opacity or it will look very over exposed.

If you want to adjust blur click gaussian blur in layer and then change radius.

Duplicate background lay and put this at top of layers. filter-convert to smart filters

filter-other-High Pass filter (a sharpening filter)

Put radius to zero and layer will look grey. Bring level up until just before the colour appears but when there is an outline of high contrast areas. click ok

change blend mode to overlay or soft light. This gives sharpness and also the Orton effect.
