Exploring the Sussex Coast
In this project, I take a look at some of the man made coastal features that we treasure, that we may take for granted, and may not necessarily appreciate as well as those that we have neglected. for one reason or another. If appropriate, I like to include the people or the wildlife that are found by these structures. As a photographer I am searching for what I find valuable and interesting, but so too are others that inhabit this coastline. So if starlings and other birds value the piers in Brighton for roosting, I feel it is important to include them too. Markers for outfall pipes discharging waste water on to the beach at Bognor Regis may not appear to be an exciting subject but dependant upon the way they are viewed can be seen as an attractive feature of our coastline. I want to convey a feeling that beauty of manmade structures often depends upon how we look at them. We should not be put off their state of maintenance or decay, and instead look at their relationship with the environment that they inhabit.
